Belle for Nokia C6-01 (v111.30.609) on Navifirm?

Whilst the official Belle updates for the original and Anna handsets aren’t due till February, some do take comfort in seeing it appear every now and again on navifirm. You could then potentially get updates early through navifirm than official routes though it’s not advised nor covered in warranty. I don’t think this one can actually be downloaded so C6-01 users may have to wait until February for official Belle (though leaks may still appear before then).

WP Apollo Superphones – WP leaked Roadmap? But Q4 2012??

With Nokia’s future closely tied with WP, tidbits of news like this suggest what’s coming in future Nokia WP products.
This is apparently a leaked roadmap for Windows phone, coming by way of WMPoweruser
Coming Announcements.....!
  • Nokia’s Tango phones are being announced at CES and MWC.
  • Nokia’s Apollo phones are appearing at Nokia Connection in June.
  • Nokia Windows 8 tablets in June
The dates give Q2 2012 for Tango availability. That’s April-May-June. Earliest possibly being April despite rumoured January/February launches? Tango/cheaper WP handsets is when Nokia can push volume WPs.
As for Apollo that ‘s frighteningly not June. It says Q4 2012. That’s October-November-December. (Note, mango became available actually Q3 2010).
Whilst I’m looking forward to cheaper, better priced Windows Phones and more so Competitive Superphones and Business phones, it’s somewhat sooooo far away. What would Android have released by then? What about the new iPhone (due Fall apparently, and it will look different says rumours, aka, same front, now with curved back again and white version 8 months later).
Whilst I say it’s far away, I’d rather it be delivered than never. I remember thinking back in 2008 that Nokia’s new OS coming 2010 was too far away. LOL. Poor, poor Maemo. Don’t let me flare up again about the lost opportunity there.
Also having said that, Nokia can still possibly make up ground by beefing up Mango and then Tango handsets with bold Nokia hardware. No compromises for 2012 please Nokia. No compromises, no excuses, no delays.

Samsung brings out Omnia Taxis in response to Lumia taxis and parks them outside Nokia Stores?

See something with potential success? COPY THE HELL OUT OF IT!
I think that’s the Samsung moto. SGS, SGSII, Galaxy Ace. You’d be forgiven for thinking they were each and every successive version of an iPhone but nooo, there’s no Apple logo at the back, no. Startlingly they’re not a China clone company and can actually make their own well designed handsets but wisely rode on the back of Apple.
Anyway, more to this tune, according to FoneArena, Samsung are copying the Nokia Lumia branded Taxis and are parking them outside Nokia Stores.
Positive things to take from this:
  • Samsung taking WP seriously – even at this low level. At the nascent stage of windows phone, it’s kinda vital its partners are there to prop up where Nokia is yet able to offer something for all customers. In the end, Nokia can get them back. Yes it does work, Nokia has been doing this time and time again with Symbian and the other Symbian manufacturers back in the day, eventually down to Samsung and Sony Ericsson who could still keep people using Symbian whilst they offered something Nokia wasn’t able to at the time.
  • Samsung thinks the Lumia taxis are a good idea.

It’s not the first ever idea in the world to go around branding vehicles but to apparently do so right outside a Nokia shop at the time when there are Lumia taxis and there weren’t Omnia taxis to begin with, it suggests that Samsung want a piece of the WP pie in India.

Nokia 801T Technical Specifications, 680MHz, 8MP EDoF

Below from the Nokia Developers page is the tech specs of the newly official Nokia 801T, a 4″ touch only handset for China (kinda like a X7 perhaps). I’d say the specs are understandable given the market. You can also see more pictures of the device. The side is indeed much nicer than the leaked pic. Not to keen on the back. The official photos so look nicer as we can see the swooping curves properly when the device is angled.

My Dream Nokia #38: Another look at a beautiful Lumia/N9 style Windows 8 ARM tablet #concept

Nokia are known to be coming up with their Windows 8 tablet this year. This isn’t their first tablet of course, but the first one geared for masses of consumers.
Tweeted by trossavel and camb078 this is the work on http://yronimus.deviantart.com/gallery/ credited as Jonas Daehnert.
It’s pretty hard for me not to like it. I’m not a fan of bezels at all, but Nokia scored with the N9 design. The bezels here are thicker than the first tablet we saw.  You’ll note the design at the back keeps the same iconic N9/Lumia 800 metal strip. No flash it seems.
There’s some other stunning phone concepts too. A twist on the Lumia
Another tablet here though not as striking as the N9 tablet like things above.

Vote in the Nokia Community awards, pick your Nokia Community Ambassador, Nokia Play 360 and trip to Finland to be won

Nokia Connects have a little competition going on where you can vote in the Nokia Community Awards, across many categories such as most exciting phone, best new app, and best video. There’s also a section there where you can vote for your Nokia Community Ambassador – your most inspirational member of the Nokia community.
Just by casting a vote, an amazing Nokia Play 360 speaker will be given away. The ‘second’ prize is a 48 hour trip to Finland to see Nokia House in Espoo. They’ll be presented with their official award, as well as having a bunch of Nokia activities crammed into the experience.
Here’s a link to the awards voting section: http://nokiaconnects.com/nokia-community-awards-2011/
Go vote for your chance to Win a play 360 and nominate who ever you think is your Nokia Community Ambassador.   There’s tons to choose from. THE Rafe Blandford. The Litchfield. Michael F (AU) or Michael H (AUT), Ali, Dhruv B, Nitish, CJ, Neil, Jade, Richard D, Mark G, Cambo, Axel, Micky, Orlando, viipottaja, mrprince, Juuso K, Jan Ole, Bharad, Dani, Mike etc ;) and many more (mostly just a reel from my twitter feed, but there’s so many more folks. Feel free to add/vote anyone we’ve missed out). Who in the Nokia community represents us? Who is our Nokia Community Ambassador?
Nokia FTW! Go vote troops!
Whilst you’re in a voting mood, go check out Gizmodo’s Gadget of the year and vote for Nokia there. We’ve been pitched against the Nintendo 3DS.
